U.S. WNT Midfielder Shannon Boxx Will Undergo Minor Knee Surgery

U.S. Women’s National Team and Chicago Red Stars midfielder Shannon Boxx will undergo an exploratory arthroscopic surgery on her right knee on April 30 to investigate the reasons for swelling and pain she has been experiencing over the past several months.

U.S. U-17 WNT Defeats Mexico in First Game of 4-Nations Tournamanet in Costa Rica

U.S. Under-17 Women’s National Team head coach B.J. Snow led the U-17s to a 3-0 victory over southern rival Mexico in the first game of the 4-Nations Tournament in San Jose, Costa Rica.

U.S. WNT and Germany Meet in Offenbach, Germany on April 5

The U.S. Women’s National Team will meet Germany for the second time in 23 days in a rare back-to-back series between the top two teams in the current FIFA Women’s World Rankings. The first “leg” took place on March 13 in the championship game of the 2013 Algarve Cup in Portugal, a match the USA won 2-0 with both goals coming from Alex Morgan. This second “leg” will be a friendly exhibition, but should actually be much more emotionally charged.

Former U.S. Women’s National Team defender Lorrie Fair and goalkeeper Mary Harvey will travel to Iraq as part of the U.S. Department of State’s Empowering Women and Girls Through Sports Initiative. During their time in Iraq, Fair and Harvey, both FIFA Women’s World Cup Champions, will draw upon the lessons of the landmark U.S. law, Title IX – which afforded opportunity and equality for American women in sports and education – to engage more than 350 young athletes through clinics and discussions on the importance of education, inclusion, and health and wellness.

U.S. Supporters Section Tickets Available for U.S. WNT vs. Canada on June 2 in Toronto

The Canadian Soccer Association has made available a U.S. Supporters Section for the June 2 match between the USA and Canada at BMO Field in Toronto for what will be the first meeting between the teams since last summer’s dramatic Olympic semifinal.

U.S. Midfielder Carli Lloyd Breaks Bone in Shoulder

U.S. midfielder Carli Lloyd suffered a non-displaced greater tuberosity fracture of the left shoulder during the USA’s opening match of the 2013 Algarve Cup in Portugal. Lloyd left during the second half against Iceland on March 6 and was held out of the USA’s two other group games. An MRI revealed the break and Lloyd will be out of action for approximately 6-8 weeks. She will not need surgery.
