Klinsmann Appoints Former World Cup Champion Berti Vogts as U.S. MNT Special Advisor

U.S. MNT head coach Jurgen Klinsmann has appointed former World Cup winner Berti Vogts to be a Special Advisor to the U.S. Men’s National Team from now through the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Vogts will aid in the development of training plans, help prepare scouting reports, and travel to observe matches of the USA’s opponents in the lead-up to the tournament and in Brazil.

Forward Julian Green’s Change of Association Approved by FIFA

Bayern Munich forward Julian Green’s application to FIFA for a one-time change of association was approved Monday, and he is now eligible to play for the U.S. Men’s National Team. The dual citizen of the United States and Germany has been invited in preparation for the USA’s next game against Mexico on April 2.

The ‘Mayor of Hannover’ Moves on

Three-time FIFA World Cup veteran Steve Cherundolo announced his retirement from playing professional soccer on Wednesday. The captain of Hannover 96 in the German Bundesliga is calling it quits after 15 years and is the only U.S.-born player to play his entire career in Europe.

ESPN Announces New Series about U.S. Soccer Premiering May 13

ESPN will premiere a new series “Inside: U.S. Soccer’s March to Brazil” this spring, focusing on the U.S. Men’s National Team as it prepares for the upcoming 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. The multi-part documentary series from ESPN Films, the production group behind 30 for 30, will air weekly beginning May 13, and episodes will also air on ABC following their ESPN premieres.

U.S. Men’s National Team Falls 2-0 to Ukraine in Cyprus

The U.S. Men’s National Team dropped a 2-0 decision against Ukraine at Antonis Papadopoulos Stadium. Andriy Yarmolenko and Marko Devic each scored a goal to hand the USA its first two-goal loss since falling 3-1 to Costa Rica in World Cup Qualifying on Sept. 6, 2013, at Estadio Nacional in San Jose, Costa Rica.
